Alright ladies and gents, lets talk about our most looked at feature, the FACE! Studies suggest that we touch our face’s about 2000-3000 times a day! Thats crazy! When you do the math, that comes out to 2-5 times a minute! As you sit and read this, where are your hands? Are they scratching your cheeks, outlining your lips, or just swarming around your chin? If you’ve answered yes to all those questions, well lets just hope your hands are clean…
Our face has so many microbes that live on the epidermis (most outer layer of skin) and it’s absolutely normal and healthy! Take a deep breath. We need good bacteria to link together and act as a defense mechanism against bad or pathogenic bacteria that want to invade and penetrate our dermis (middle layer of skin). Lets just say thats how those little rebel pimples show up and ruin our lives. Although, its important to note that Bacteria do not always cause infections and diseases, only when they overgrow (those chocolate buns buns you ate last night was probably a mistake.) In fact, our facial micro biome consists of good bacteria that prevent disease and colonization of bad bacteria by creating chain like material called a biofilm. Imagine bread crumbs linked together by jelly from your sandwich. Now, that makes it difficult for bad things to penetrate and enter our skin! By keeping a healthy and balanced diet, you are actually controlling your pH values and the amount of pimples that pop up on your skin. Eating too much sweets and sugar is never the answer to flawless and breath taking skin- in fact you’re actually feeding those bacterias and making them over grow. YUCK! Now that we enhanced our knowledge, lets discuss some healthy facial beauty tips!
Having beautiful skin as a teenager was always a struggle for me. Popping a pimple here and there was so satisfying yet sooo wrong. By the age of 20, I noticed my skin became much lighter. Perhaps it was growing up. Although, thats when you notice the red and dry spots. I wished I could go out without foundation and look as natural as possible. With these beauty tips I said goodbye to ugly, red, patchy, and dry skin. Take a look…
Maintaining Moisture and Hydration:
Your skin absolutely needs to stay hydrated, We don’t want our most looked at feature to be in drought. Thats simply not attractive. By allowing our skin to be hydrated, we are actually giving it that natural glow and a healthy look.
- Aloe Vera: My absolute favorite to-go plant. Aloe vera has incredible agents to reduce irritation and red spots. Simply purchase an aloe vera plant from any local food store. Cut a small chunk of the leaf, split it in half, begin to apply gently in circular motion onto your facial skin. Do this every day for 1-2 times a day until you notice a change in your skin.
- Coconut oil: Not only does it get rid of cellulite but it keeps your skin smooth and moisturized. only purchase organic and non GMO products. You can find them at your local TJ Max, HomeGoods, or Marshalls for fraction of the cost that you would pay in Whole Foods.
- Use lotions: CeraVe
- Non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, oil-free, fragrance-free and non-irritating
- Am Moisturizer contains broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen
- AM and PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion:
- Contains niacinamide which is also known is vitamin B3. This gentle (even on sensitive skins) ingredient helps with soothing and restoring the skin barriers. It is also good for skin conditions such as acne, eczema, and skin discoloration! Essentially, this is what helps the skin look its healthiest form preventing flakiness, dryness, and tightness.
- Hyaluronic Acid is also a key ingredient. This naturally produced sugar is found within the skin and is responsible for the skin’s plumpness and volume. It is very essential for maintaining the skin’s moisture balance. As we age, the skins production of hyaluronic acid decreases which is why we need to use products to maintain and balance the moisture in our skin. Best part about this acid is IT DOES NOT CLOG PORES! You do not need to worry about this product and ingredient causing those bumpy acne marks.
- Ceramides are lipids that help form the skin’s barrier and help skin retain moisture. Ceramides also help protect the skin from environmental toxins such as pollution and irritants. Without this substance within the skin’s barrier, our skin can become dry, itchy, and irritated. Although it is naturally made in our bodies, factors such as hot water, soaps, certain chemicals and other environmental factors can deplete this important lipid. Best of all, you do not need to worry if you have sensitive, dry, or oily skin! It benefits all skin types!
